About

Northwest CanCon is the ultimate guide to Canadian music in the Pacific Northwest: Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

For Canadian expats: Just because you live in the United States doesn’t mean you have to leave your favourite bands behind. Northwest CanCon is your source for up-to-date listings of concerts, performances and other appearances in Washington, Oregon and Idaho by acts born or based in Canada. We also bring you news and information about the Canadian music scene as well as links to other resources of value to Canadians living in the U.S.

For Americans and others: You already know and love Canadian music—although you might not even know it! Of course there are the well-known acts like Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette, The Barenaked Ladies and Shania Twain. But the Canadian music scene is much bigger than that, and many of the best Canadian bands play in the Northwest on a regular basis. Best of all, with the Department of Homeland Security acting as a filter, you can be sure that the acts you see here in the U.S. are pretty good: not just any garage band can get a visa. We will inform and educate you about the vibrant, creative, and wide-ranging music scene to the north.

The site was created by Matthew Ginn. The independent music photographer and photojournalist was born and raised in various parts of Ontario before emigrating to the U.S. in 2002. He spent 3+ years in Nevada before moving to Portland, Ore., where he currently resides.
