Digest for Oct. 29

The latest, greatest and strangest from the world o’ CanCon this week:
- In this week’s installment of the tell-me-something-we-don’t-know department, the Globe & Mail reports that bands see the internet as both friend and foe.
From the politics bureau, Toronto musician/jounalist Andrew Cash (left) has secured the nomination for NDP candidate in the Davenport riding in the next federal election. “When Andrew wins this seat I’ll no longer be able to make the claim of being the only MP who ever opened for the Dead Kennedys,” said Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus, who played with Cash in the 80s band L’Étranger.
In the bizarre tragedy department, up-and-coming singer/songwriter Taylor Mitchell (right) died Oct. 27 after being attacked by coyotes in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The 19-year-old folkie was hiking in between gigs in Nova Scotia. Read more about the unusual incident here or here.- In the useless-crap-for-charity department, click here to bid on an autographed guitar pick from K’NAAN‘s performance at Rock the Bells. Condition: used. The proceeds will support Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy.
Recent and coming-soon releases include:
- Carolyn Mark (right) & N.Q. Arbuckle, Let’s Just Stay Here (Oct. 27)
- Gentleman Reg, Heavy Head EP (strangely, in four stages, starting Nov. 10)
